Minneapolis, MN 55402
2 CLEs have been applied for: 1 anti-bias, 1 ethics
Reminder: attorneys have until August 31 to complete and submit CLE requirements following the June 30 reporting period.
Elimination of Bias
For the first hour, Ryan LeCount, a sociology professor at Hamline University, will analyze implicit bias and its potential manifestations in transactional legal settings. Attendees will learn about concrete approaches they can take to overcome their implicit bias as well as how they can address implicit bias when clients or colleagues direct it against them.
The Elimination of Bias portion will be presented by Dr. Jerome Lecount, Assistant Professor of Sociology with Hamline University. Dr. Lecount’s teaching and research focus on issues of identity and power, especially race and ethnicity in the United States. Dr. Lecount will deliver an hour long program on his fascinating and critical work and how it may be applicable to transactional legal advice in our brief advice and full representation settings.
One of the most valuable contributions to the legal profession a lawyer can make is devoting time to handling cases pro bono.
This session will walk participants through several quandaries that may arise during a pro bono case and will involve a discussion of the best ethical and most practical responses for pro bono professionals and volunteers.
The Ethics portion will be presented by Craig Klausing, J.D., Senior Assistant Director of the Minnesota Board of Professional Responsibility. Mr. Klausing, an attorney with over two decades of experience in professional responsibility investigation, prosecution, supervision, and continuing education, will deliver an hour long program on professional responsibility issues related to providing pro bono legal services.
The CLE concludes with an opportunity to meet LegalCORPS staff and sign up for a specific opportunity or case. It is also a great opportunity to meet with other volunteers. Coffee and light breakfast served.
