The LegalCORPS Board of Directors is pleased to announce that we have hired Sally Nankivell as our new executive director.   She will begin her new role in late February.

Sally’s extensive leadership experience includes more than 20 years’ experience in the nonprofit and business communities. Most recently, she has served as administrative director for The Advocates for Human Rights, where she has managed many aspects of its operations. Her background also includes experience as executive director of nonprofit organizations promoting community development and tourism in northeast Minnesota, and leadership roles in women’s support organizations.

Board president Martin Rosenbaum stated, “We are extremely excited to have someone with Sally’s experience in a leadership role to bring our organization to the next level. We appreciate her experience managing an organization that provides superior service through volunteer attorneys, as well as the passion she shows for economic development, including serving immigrant communities and communities of color.”

Sally succeeds Michael Vitt, executive director since 2007, who earlier had announced that he would retire from the position in February. Rosenbaum stated, “Mike has led the development of all LegalCORPS programs and has positioned the organization for even greater accomplishments in the coming years. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mike for his tireless service and dedication to LegalCORPS’ mission over the past decade.”

LegalCORPS is a Minnesota nonprofit that provides free assistance in non-litigation business law matters to low-income owners of small businesses,  small nonprofit organizations and low-income innovators in Minnesota — through the services of more than 500 volunteer attorneys.LegalCORPS’s mission is to expand access to the legal system — in the area of business law — to many who otherwise would be left out.
