Limited Scope Representation Assistance
When legal matters are more complex than what can be addressed in our Brief Advice Clinics, limited scope representation assistance may be available for entrepreneurs, small business owners, inventors, and nonprofit organizations that meet the guidelines for eligibility. For those who qualify, LegalCORPS can recruit attorneys to provide free legal assistance for their non-litigation business law matters. The attorney-client relationship for limited scope representation assistance is the same as it would be for a fee-paying arrangement, ensuring equitable business law access.
Eligibility requirements for limited scope representation vary within LegalCORPS programs. Please consult program requirements under the “Who We Serve” tab.
When an attorney is recruited for limited scope representation, LegalCORPS requires a $50 nonrefundable placement fee from the applicant. This is an administrative fee only and you will not have to pay for the attorney’s time. Any and all filing fees and costs are the responsibility of the client
Infrequent exceptions to the financial eligibility requirement can be made if the client presents other circumstances that suggests he/she is a good candidate for pro bono assistance. These are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Understanding Transactional Legal Work
It is important to know transactional attorneys do not represent clients at trial, and will not draft and file, or respond to, lawsuits. Instead, our volunteer attorneys are experts in drafting and reviewing legal documents, and as practitioners of business, real estate, intellectual property, employment, and nonprofit law, they are excellent at providing sound guidance in these areas.
